Our Story:
In 1980, Darin Jacobs caught the "Pacman Fever" that was sweeping the nation. Darin’s symptoms included spending far too much time and money playing the “Pacman” arcade game in the backroom of the Stardust 3 bowling alley in Dyer, Indiana.
Young Darin was so devoted to the game that while his parents were on a Hawaiian vacation, Darin took the $1,300 he was saving for his first car (money earned from years of delivering paper, cutting lawns and shoveling
snow) and convinced the local arcade vendor to sell him a used Pacman game.
Although upset, Darin’s parents were sure Darin would soon learn his lesson the hard way riding a bus to school instead of driving the car he had worked so hard for. But Darin wasn’t so sure, especially after he sold the Pacman for $1,900 to a passer-by one afternoon. Helping his son load the game into the gentlemen's truck, Darin’s father told the passer-by he was as much of a fool as his son was. This time, Darin listened to his father’s wise words and…purchased an Atari Football and Centipede game. The rest, as they say, is history.
In 1997, Darin’s wife helped turn Darin’s passion into a business called Phoenix Arcade.
Today, (when he isn’t avoiding “ghosts” and “gobbling up fruits”), Darin and his wife help other dealers and collectors restore their vintage arcade games with quality art reproduction and service provided by Phoenix Arcade.
